GUS leaders attend the World Economic Forum at Davos
In January, Yuliya Etingen, Chief Impact Officer at GUS, was invited to speak on a panel at the World Economic Forum at Davos.
The panel discussed ‘The human cost of conflict’ and Yuliya Etingen spoke eloquently on multidimensional perspectives and GUS’ experience in this arena as well as the impact of armed conflicts on women and girls and how global conflicts erode the rule of law, democratic values, gender equality and the core principles of human rights guaranteed by international legal instruments.
Yuliya Etingen discussed the impact of conflict on women and girls’ education due to challenges including increased risk of gender-based violence, societal expectations limiting mobility, and a lack of facilities that address their unique needs, impeding their educational pursuits. She highlighted a great initiative that FutureLearn launched last year, where thousands of Afghan women can access education free on the platform, to combat the Taliban’s ban on women acquiring education.
The implication of conflict on education, especially women’s education, is an issue that is extremely important at GUS, so it was a privilege for Yuliya Etingen to speak at the event.
