LCCM Youth Music Officer attends ‘Seat at the Table 2024’

On Tuesday 30 January, Daniela Magni, London College of Contemporary Music’s Youth Music Officer, experienced a landmark moment in the UK music industry when she attended the event ‘Seat at the Table 2024.’
‘Seat at the Table 2024’ is the name of a report launched by ‘Women in CTRL’ which revealed an increase in the representation of women on UK music trade body boards. The report showed an impressive surge from 32% in 2020 to an inspiring 52% in 2024, a noteworthy leap towards achieving gender parity in leadership roles within the sector.
The release of the ground-breaking research was celebrated at an event at the PPL offices, attracting industry professionals, advocates and influencers. The panel discussion featured prominent figures in the music industry, including Women in CTRL Founder & CEO Nadia Khan; UK Music’s Head of Diversity Eunice Obianagha; Naomi Pohl, General secretary of the Musicians’ Union; Dr Jo Twist OBE, BPI Chief Executive; Eve Horne, Singer-songwriter Producer and Sound Engineer, Kate Reilly-Hurter, Chief Membership and People Officer at PPL; YolanDa Brown OBE DL, Saxophonist, Broadcaster and Chair of the British Phonographic Industry; Roxanne de Bastion, Singer-songwriter and Jessica Kangalee, Director at Good Energy PR.
Women in CTRL is a non-profit music development organisation on a mission to advance gender equality in the music industry. They develop, support and champion music creators and music professionals from under-represented groups.
Daniela Magni said: “These speakers brought their expertise and experiences to the forefront, addressing the challenges faced by women in the music industry and celebrating the progress made. Attendance at the event exemplifies LCCM’s dedication to fostering an environment that recognises and supports diversity within the music community.”
The report’s findings and the discussions at the event speak to the achievements of Women in CTRL so far, but also serve as a call to action for sustained efforts in dismantling gender barriers and ensuring continued progress towards a more equitable and inclusive music industry landscape.
