LCCM hosts Women in Music event

On Friday 8 March, LCCM hosted the first Women in Music event in a new series dedicated to celebrating and empowering women, non-binary and gender-expansive individuals in the music industry.
The event was part of the ongoing commitment at LCCM to foster diversity, inclusion and to recognise the incredible talent, creativity and leadership of women in the world of music.
Daniela Magni, Youth Music Officer at LCCM, hosted insightful discussions featuring influential figures in the industry, including Eva Davies, Senior Label Manager at Come Play with Me Records, Marlena Harris and Marie Dahlstrom, Lecturers at LCCM.
During the event, Sophia Ahmed, Education Manager at Saffron Records, Saskhia Menendez, Representative of Keychange/The F-list, and Phoebe Cross, Programme Officer at Next Gen Youth Music, also shared experiences, expertise and perspectives, while shedding light on the diverse roles women play in music.
Following the panel discussions, the programme continued with a special Ableton session conducted by Mel Uye-Parker, Ableton Certified Trainer, providing hands-on experience for those interested in music production.
The day concluded with an open mic session hosted by Anarii, LCCM student, offering a stage for emerging artists to showcase their talents and contribute to the celebration of diversity within the music community.
This series of events, starting on International Women’s Day, sets the tone for future gatherings in June, September and December, promising continued inspiration, empowerment and recognition for women in the music industry.
